Ant and the Grass Hopper -A New Beginning

In a distant forest near a stream there lived a great ant colony. That colony was well known for its most diligent workers and a wonderful and caring Queen. Everyone loved the Queen. In that community there were three well guarded vaults. First vault was for the Queen to live, second was used to keep the eggs and larvae and the third vault was used to store food. There was an ant by name Iruve’ who guarded the Queen’s Vault. He was a hardworking ant and respected his Queen very much. Each day, after his shift he would come out of the ant hill to spend time with his childhood mate and best friend Midte’, the grass hopper. They were very close and shared a lovely bond. They played together, ate together, made fun of each other and enjoyed each other’s company very much. Both were impressed by each other’s strengths. Iruve’ would show his skills by lifting weights thrice his own size while Midte’ would showcase his dexterity by flying. There was no inhibition between them...

A Withered Life

Today might be my birthday. If it is, then I turn 18 today. I have had nightmares about this day and hoped that this day would never come. There is nothing happy about this birthday because at the end of the day I will be transferred to prison from juvenile detention centre. Humans are known to adapt and my college’s mission for us was to adapt and excel. I have not been able to adapt to my environment here where I get proper meal, cozy bed and more importantly inmates who are of my age or younger. Everyone in detention room C dreads the day they turn 18 and still have years to serve. The thought of going to an actual prison is like going through Dante’s inner circles of hell. You get to know what freedom really is and you understand that it is much underrated as we take it for granted. I am going to see my parents today. I am immensely happy to see them but I know how painful it is for them to see me. I get to eat juicy sweet gulab jamoons that my mother will bring to me because ...

Happy Birthday

You know there are some people who have a negative take on anything. Take for instance my favorite comedian Jerry Seinfeld's sarcastic view on birthdays- "Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year's gone by and how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, each flicker of the candles on the cake we know it's not to be. That for the rest of our sad, wretched, pathetic lives, this is who we are to the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably. Happy birthday? No such thing." But there is a reason why it is celebrated all over the world. Its a much needed day. A day, the only day for you. You alone and nobody else. Its all about you. A very special day where you started this sacred journey of life to experience and cherish every mysterious moments of it. A chance to enjoy god's absolutely exceptional exhibition of his alarmingly beautiful creation. The day where your presence, your existence is acknow...

Bus commuters beware

We all know that Bangalore is packed with people and people travel. The most used mode of transport is buses. BMTC providing this facility is doing a good job. They recently announced that they are making profit which is a healthy sign. The frequency of buses is good and also there are buses to remote places. Also public transport is the thing of the future as population is on the rise. It also is the sensible thing to do as it can lessen the ever-growing congestion in roads and helps to curb global warming. Many people travel by buses. Assuming that the drivers are driving the buses cautiously it must be the safest way to travel. Well not entirely because it is infested with thieves. Especially a group whom I have encountered twice. For me it was a good luck bad luck type of scenario. Bad luck because thieves were near me (oh god!).Good luck because they entered after I had and left before my stop (thank god!). They are about eight to ten in number and board the bus hurriedly an...

Just put pencil to paper

Story telling is an art and a gift.It must be nurtured. I am urging all of you to write. Don't just make writing your hobby;make it a habit. Make it a routine. I know everyone are very busy but at least write one page daily. Write about anything and everything. Though it is difficult, the discipline will help you in the future. Criticisms are always positive; just depends on your perspective. Don't get dejected but try to incorporate it to improve your self or just ignore it. Writing is a creative and divine art. Others read it to get entertained and it is the only profession where you are Jack of all trades and master of all too. Take Angels and Demons for example. The author must have complete knowledge about particle physics, papal culture, cryptography, ancient cults, history, fascinating facts and geographical descriptions of myriad of places, etc. along with a solid plot. Amazing right. Well, this is the easy part. Clearly explaining all this to a layman who has no idea ...
